Calder Park Raceway 1973

Calder Park Drag Racing 1973

The Drag Racing bug always bites hard. The First Calder Park outing for Sam and Issy was in the summer of 1973 some 52 years ago. Yes, over half a century ago. Issy was racing a Holden Monaro GTS with 308ci Holden V8 with factory Saginaw 4 speed manual transmission, factory twin exhaust and factory ten bolt salisbury limited slip differential with 3.36:1 ratio gears. The car ran 15.1 second ET's in total stock trim with "Kleber" 205 size tyres all around.

Sam came to the track with his Yamaha RD350cc two stroke twin cylinder production street motorcycle. Not a particularly large engine but the light and nimble bike still managed to match the ET's of the Monaro with a young but heavy Sam on board.

Obviously, after these enjoyable early days the Drag Race bug was now part of the brother's DNA.
